Celebrating International Women’s Day!

What a week we had for International Women’s Day! The WiC team were super busy, investing their time to champion investment in inclusion and to celebrate women in the construction workforce.

On Monday 11th, Kath and Jacqui were invited to speak at the House of Commons Administration Committee along with some amazing women already working across the Parliamentary estate.  We look forward to continued discussions with the Parliamentary Strategic Estates Team and the Restoration and Renewal Programme to see how we can increase the diversity of their teams in the future.  

Wednesday saw us up at Sizewell C in Suffolk, supporting their International Women’s Day celebrations by meeting the team on site, delivering an online interactive workshop and discussing the particular challenges they face in encouraging women to work in such a remote location. We were delighted to announce our new programme with them – coming in Autumn 2024.  

On Thursday we hosted our own IWD webinar and were delighted to speak to over 70 attendees including women, company representatives and industry partners. We heard some great examples of best practice from Wates Group and Glencar Construction and listened first hand from our WiC alumni now working in construction on their thoughts as to how employers can create inclusive workplaces for all. 

On IWD itself (Friday), Anna and Dee were at The Drum, Wembley, London where, in partnership with West London College Green Skills Hub, we delivered a Green Jobs and Training Fair. Over 80 women, companies and training providers gathered to hear about opportunities in green construction and broker opportunities for training and employment to local women.  

All this coupled with supporting several other WiC corporate members with their IWD celebrations, delivering fantastic employment programmes in Coventry, East London and East Anglia AND launching the latest Women into Home Building programme (applications now open!).  

So, it’s been busy! We are rightly proud to celebrate international women’s day with all our fantastic women and partners, but – our work doesn’t just happen on one day of the year – it’s a 365 day job to Change the Face of Construction and we hope you will join us in our mission this year!
