Andrea – Banksperson

In July 2023, Andrea was referred by her DWP work coach to WiC following conversations where Andrea expressed a desire to understand more about opportunities within Construction. Andrea had been working as a personal care assistant but had previously acquired a wide range of skills in Construction as a result of being involved in her father’s multi-trade business from an early age and she was keen to develop these skills further.

Andrea was based in East Anglia which made her a perfect candidate for our East Anglia Hub which is run in partnership with Department of Work & PensionsThe Hill Group, Morgan Sindall Construction, Lovell and Clarion Futures. The programme offers women in East Anglia an exciting programme of employment support including training and support to gain Level 1 Health & Safety and CSCS card, mentoring sessions, 121 WiC support and a two-week full time work placement.

Following a one-to-one session with WiC Project Co-ordinator, Jade Jenkins, we introduced Andrea to Morgan Sindall’s Senior Site Manager, Danny Branson following which we enrolled Andrea on the CSCS and Banksperson training which Andrea passed with flying colours!

We are delighted that Andrea was offered the role of Banksperson and is now working successfully on site where her skills are proving useful. We caught up with Andrea who told us; ‘With a few challenges at the start, I’m getting the hang of things, and I’m happy to be part of this challenging environment. Thank you WiC for your hard work. Without you lovely ladies I would never have landed such a well-paid and fun job.’

Danny Branson, Morgan Sindall Construction Senior Site Manager shared:

‘’WiC is fundamental in bridging the gap for further roles in the industry for woman to consider. We published our gate person role to WiC in order to provide a long standing and development opportunity for individuals to consider. We were proposed Andrea, in which we went through an interview process and from the off, Andrea was the perfect fit to the scheme & project team. Andrea is very hardworking, easy to get on with and is always willing to develop her skills and knowledge. Although this is a testament to herself, credit must also be given to WiC, in ensuring anyone who is within their available list is fit for the roles they review. I look forward to seeing Andrea develop on this project and I also look forward to working with WiC for years to come – continuing to grow the already strong relationship so that further opportunities are provided for women in the industry’.’

Huge congratulations Andrea, we are very proud of you!  We would also like to thank Hays Recruitment Team for their support which Andrea really benefited from – thank you!
