WiC launches it’s first programme in the North-East!

Working with Gateshead College and BuildNE in the North-East!

Women into Construction is working with Gateshead College and BUILDNE to launch an employment programme for women in the North-East.

Working closely with Newcastle City Council, The North of Tyne Combined Authority and the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP), the project hopes to attract women keen on trying roles in construction, offering a six-week programme that will provide support with childcare and training costs to make the opportunity more accessible.

We are delighted to be collaborating with six key construction and engineering employers – Keepmoat, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Sir Robert McAlpine, RED, Robertson and Your Homes Newcastle Repairs & Construction Services.

The employment programme will include;

  • Three weeks of construction-related and employability training, including CSCS cards and Level 1 Health & Safety
  • A two-week practical, hands-on work experience placement
  • Site vists with our employment partners
  • 1-2-1 coaching and support from Women into Construction.

The work experience will include trades and on-site roles such as Document Controller, Project Administration, CAD Technician, Site Engineer and Trade based trainee positions.

Women into Construction’s Business Development Director, Jacqui Wordsworth says; “We are excited to be offering this programme to women in the North-East, which is a new region for WiC support.  We believe that construction is an industry for all, and we are proud to be working in the area with such inclusive partners.”

Women interested in this exciting opportunity are invited to register to attend an information session at 11am on Thursday 19th January 2023 in Central Newcastle . At the event, they will learn more about the programme and  meet the employers involved. To register please click here.
