Naomi – Construction Management
Work Placement

Naomi contacted WiC wanting to make a career change from business development into construction management. Naomi started a part-time 8-week placement with the Hill Technical and Commercial teams, gaining valuable knowledge of these elements of construction. Naomi’s placement was extended with the site management team to gain a better understanding of site management processes. Naomi’s long time goal is to train in construction management and develop a career as a site/project manager. Naomi is currently preparing to obtain her SMSTS and First-Aid certification.

“I really appreciate this opportunity enabling me to learn from the experts who are willingly sharing their knowledge with me. I am very excited about building a career in construction.” – Naomi

UPDATE

Naomi has now secured a role in Quality Control with CSI-QA.

Naomi says, “Following a career change in August 2020, I was introduced to women in construction and supported throughout the year by Aretha Kelly who introduced me to Hill and their placement scheme for women.

After the initial two week placement at Hill’s High Path site and with encouragement from the project manager Liam Kelly, I decided that it was important to continue the placement in order to acquire as much knowledge and experience as I could. I continued to complete a 9 month work placement, working across commercial, technical and production.
After the 9 month placement and whilst on site, Liam Kelly introduced me to one of Hill’s subcontractors CSI-QA who over several months, began to see my potential, determination and willingness to learn. CSI-QA subsequently offered me my first paid role within construction, as well as supporting me in obtaining my MCIOB.
I am grateful for the ongoing support of Aretha Kelly, Women in Construction and to Hill for taking part in this scheme because it has given professional women like me, who come from a non construction background a great opportunity to enter a truly interesting industry.”
