Jacira

Jacira – Document Controller

Jacira completed her Geological Engineering undergraduate and master’s degrees in Portugal before moving to the UK to look for employment in this area. She was unsure where to start and was referred to Women into Construction (WiC) by a friend.

In July 2021, Jacira enrolled on a WiC employability programme, in partnership with RMF Group, Lendlease and its tier 1 contractors; Willmott Dixon, Vinci and Kier, on the Perry Barr Residential Scheme. Jacira successfully completed her Level 1 Health & Safety, Emergency First Aid training and obtained a CSCS card. She also participated in pre-employability, mental health and equality, diversity and inclusion workshops.

Through RMF’S network of contractors, Jacira applied for a job as a document controller with J.Murphy & Sons Ltd. She was successful at interview and is now working for them in this role in Central Birmingham.

Jacira says, ‘If I hadn’t been introduced to WiC then I would still be jumping from job to job, trying to find myself and my place. I came to the UK to find employment and use my degree and this job gives me the opportunity to work in construction and climb the ladder. I am very busy in my new role, and I am enjoying it very much’.

WiC Project Manager, Steph Sheppard, added, ‘Jacira is an extremely clever young lady who is ambitious and hardworking; whatever task or challenge she is given she commits to 100%. It has been a pleasure getting to know her and supporting her in this programme. I look forward to keeping in touch with Jacira to further support her and her progression through the industry’.
